When you say "restore" do you mean from > OS X Lion: About Lion Recovery
If so, try again but the startup disk may need repairing using Disk Utilty.

I did follow your directions, I have discovered that my hard drive is failing, but according to the apple website it is not one that falls under the seagate replacement program, made a genius bar appt. thanks for the help.
