How do I see two channels of audio on clips?

I have Final Cut Pro X.

I've imported clips from SDHD card into final cut. I recorded two channels of audio but I'm not seeing them. Wondering how to access these. I am only seeing one channel of audio in the timeline.

Thank-you.

In the audio inspector scroll down to the channel configuration to see how many channels of audio your clip contains. If it indeed has multiple audio channels you can reveal them in the timeline. Select the clip in the timeline and then choose detach audio or compress control-shift-s. "The audio is detach from the video and appears as a connected clip, synchronized to the first frame of the video." Now "choose Clip>Break Apart Clip Items, or press Command-shift-G. Each channel is broken into its own bar and can be a just and individually" (FCPX-Advanced Editing by Michael Wohl).

I hope this is what you were looking for!

Okay, I found where it says channel configuration and it says Stereo - and shows one green channel of audio. When I change it to dual mono, both of those channels sound the same. When filming, I had one mic placed closer to the audio source and one mic was further away - so there should have been a noticable difference in the sounds of the two channels.

What does that mean? I'm wondering if my camera was recording two channels of audio but mixing it down to only one on the media card.

This image shows the Channel Configuration section of the Audio Inspector.

If your recording was in stereo change it to dual mono like below.

After you have detached the audio in the timeline you should then be able to break it apart.

The results should look something like this and then you can edit the audio tracks independently of each other and the video clip for that matter.
