Jun 26, 2012 9:44 AM in response to RonnieSanby RonnieSan,An Apple engineer read this post and gave me a call. I'm assuming he cross-referenced my Apple Care case number. He told me they were very concerned with the quality aspects of the display and asked me a few questions about my case. I think they want to send my MBP to engineering to see what the issue might be so they can prevent it in the future.
If you're 100% sure the issue is a hardware issue, take it in to an Apple store to have them look at it directly and explain to them what you read on this forum. They should be able to help you. If not, I would return it and just buy a new one.

Jun 27, 2012 1:00 PM in response to sjamby sjam,So i was able to get a replacement thru the store. I spent an hour waiting for help because the place was mobbed. Then I needed to migrate 31gb of data over to the new machine and using thunderbolt it was saying 4 hours. I don't know why it would take that long. I've used firewire and it only took 2 hrs on my old macbook pro.
I still am waiting for things to xfer. this is nuts!

Jul 5, 2012 10:21 PM in response to RonnieSanby rlindley,I too have received a new Reina MacBook Pro with a white spot located about an inch up from the bottom just off the center of my screen. The spot is just about 1/8" in diameter. My MacBook Pro has a couple of upgrades 16 Gb memory and 750 Gb solid state drive. I took it to my local Apple store this evening even though I purchased it online. They're first offer was to return the unit, issue a gift card to the store, and reorder a replacement unit with ETA at 3 - 5 weeks with the gift card. With just a little talking they have ordered a replacement unit with an ETA still at 3 - 5 weeks, I keep the unit until the replacement arrives, and they will call me when it comes in to swap the units out. Great customer service Apple!
I love the new MacBook Pro! Fast, fantastic resolution, stable.

Jul 7, 2012 10:23 AM in response to RonnieSanby snagglepuss31,I had the sample issue. Bright spot on the display. I returned the notebook to Apple with a thunderbolt display that would not turn on without an SMC and PRAM reset. Very disappointed with Apple.

Jul 7, 2012 10:35 AM in response to wvitulliby wvitulli,It just keeps getting better. For nearly 2 weeks now Apple has BS'd around trying to "authorize" getting a replacement to me. The white spots are getting more and more freqeuent and now dead pixels are starting to pop up. I think there may have been a seriously bad batch of these Retina displays and I'd like to get the laptop back to Engineering as quickly as possible because who knows how many people this is affecting.

Jul 7, 2012 11:14 AM in response to snagglepuss31by Maziyar,Sorry to hear that. Can I ask when did you get your machine? Did you get a replacement or you refund your money?
Thanks

Jul 7, 2012 11:23 AM in response to Maziyarby snagglepuss31,I received the notebook on Monday (7/2). The bright spot was noticeable immediately. I might have kept the computer had it not been the issue with the thunderbolt display. I am getting a refund. I could have gotten a replacement but I am not willing to have them ship another notebook and display only to go through the same issues. I am not 100% certain that the behavior I am seeing with the notebook and display is a just a problem with one defective item. I am afraid there is a incompatibility between these devices and I want to see them work together in a store before I take another chance.

Jul 7, 2012 11:24 AM in response to Maziyarby wvitulli,The machine arrived to me on June 19th. A week or so later I noticed the white spots appearing and called into AppleCare. Everyone promised they would get this machine replaced for me and Engineering did in fact get in contact with me on the 26th of June to get some photos of the issue over to them, but I haven't heard a word from them since then. I was supposed to receive an advance RMA'd laptop (putting a deposit down so they can ship me another in advance) this way I don't have to be without a laptop during the timeframe it takes for them to sort all of this out and order me a replacement. I don't expect to have a replacement laptop for another month or longer.

Jul 7, 2012 7:30 PM in response to wvitulliby RonnieSan,I now have my replacement laptop in hand. Took about a week to a week and a half to receive once I faxed them over the signed form regarding the replacement.
I'll be sending the defective unit back this week. The new unit looks great, but we'll see how long that lasts.

Jul 7, 2012 10:46 PM in response to wvitulliby Maziyar,Sorry I ask this it's off topic but I've seen this advanced RMA option when you put deposit and they let you use your machine till they send you another one. But know one says how much this deposit is? is it a normal policy or you should talk them through with this option?
I hope your new machine is the one you want without any problem.
Thanks

Jul 9, 2012 12:06 PM in response to RonnieSanby ColdDevil,Hi there !
I just got my Retina MacBook Pro on thursday. Yesterday I saw a bright line in the bottom left corner. Here are some photos:

...and one with higher contrast:

Today I went to the Apple Store and they offered me a display replacement or suggested to return it to Apple. I decided to call Apple and ask for a replacement. They said it would be absolutely no problem to return it (even if I had bought it via Apple-On-Campus within the online store). My MacBook will be picked up this week and I was assured that a new MacBook will arrive by the middle of next week.
If you have the decision between a replaced display or a completely new MacBook it is quite obvious what to choose.

It's not really a deposit per se... they just take your credit card info and if you don't return the old one 14 days after the new one is shipped, they charge you the full price of a new laptop.

Jul 13, 2012 6:39 PM in response to RonnieSanby BarrySTFU,Ugh, so my rMBP was finally delivered today and I have the same issue. It's this small, white, blurry looking speck on the left side of my display. I tested for ghosting as soon as I turned it on and I wasn't getting any so I thought "Alright, sweet. I'm good". Then I noticed the mura. It's small but pretty noticeable in grey backgrounds. I understand that people have 2 weeks to return their Macbooks for a refund or a new one but if I do decide to exchange it for another one and I happen to get another defective one, will I be stuck with it? Or will I have 2 weeks to return it again?

Jul 13, 2012 6:56 PM in response to BarrySTFUby wvitulli,Your return period is 14 days from the original purchase date. After that you're going to have to deal with AppleCare or the Genius Bar for support, you can no longer return the laptop. The screen can be replaced by support or the entire computer if warranted.
