Feb 6, 2013 4:53 PM in response to RonnieSanby FluxArc,Awe man! I just noticed three spots on my display and I've had it since June 22, 2012. It almost certainly would have noticed it sooner, so I'm thinking it developed over time. It's quite obvious now that I've noticed it. I was hoping it was just a smudge on my screen but after cleaning it up, those three brighter spots remained. Ugh. So frustrating. After my semester in school, I'll have to take it in. Glad to see at least that other people have this issue too, so I shouldn't have too much difficulty asserting that this is a known defect.

Mar 11, 2013 11:49 AM in response to FluxArcby Rob-zh,Same here on a rMBP (mid-2012) running on a LG screen. It`s an early production unit, received on 25th June 2012. Discovered the white spots a couple of days ago and taking it to the Genius bar tomorrow. I´m not sure for how long I have had them, as my desktop picture is dark in which case they do not show.
White spots are just above the Safari browser icon. They look like from a spray can.
I´m somewhat disappointed by Apple considering the price tag of the product. This is my first MacBook and not sure I would buy one again.

Mar 14, 2013 7:18 PM in response to RonnieSanby Old Macs,Same problem with mine. 15" MBPw/R not sure of the display manufactuer (is there anyway to tell?). I don't know if it was like that when I got it (Sep of 2012), but I just relized it today (Mar 14, 2013). I thought it was a something on the page. Nope, scrolled down, still there. Cleaned the glass, still there. The local Apple Store hates me, for many different reasons, but also because I got this Retina as a $100 replacement from my older 2011 MBP.
The dots appered right around the downloads folder in the dock. I'm going to take it Monday to see what the store is going to do.

Mar 19, 2013 5:33 AM in response to RonnieSanby ashdeh86,I too have a bright white spot which developed over time. It was not present when first purchased back in late June 2012. I have noticed this a couple months ago. I have taken it in to a "genius" who quickly acknowledged the problem. He said they would replace the screen with a brand new one, which happens to be a samsung display. He told me if this still has a problem then they would replace the whole unit, which I believe it should be in the first case as my laptop is not even a year old and has this problem. This is unacceptable and should be dealt with immediately.
I will let you guys know the outcome next weekend when Im due to replace the screen.

Mar 19, 2013 5:38 AM in response to ashdeh86by djec03,I changed three times my screen and I stil have the problem..... Insane....Thank you Apple for your great retina screen. In addition, I think that nobody from Apple has answered to the complains... What is the point of making topics if nobody can help you....

Mar 19, 2013 8:14 AM in response to djec03by Surge74,It's called: Steve Jobs is Dead...
Apple is going downhill fast -- it will become the next Microsoft (read: slow, outdated, bug-laden, arrogant).
Sad, but the Apple we loved died with Steve. If you don't believe me, let's talk again in 5 years.

Mar 19, 2013 3:31 PM in response to Rob-zhby Rob-zh,My LG screen has now been replaced with one from Samsung. It was very nice of them to replace it the same day... dropped off in the morning picked it up after work. That's what I call good service.

Mar 19, 2013 3:40 PM in response to Rob-zhby ashdeh86,Hi Rob-zh,
Was the Samsung screen that was replaced a brand new one or refurbished one and how is the new screen ?
Thanks,
ashdeh86

Mar 19, 2013 3:47 PM in response to ashdeh86by Rob-zh,Hi Ashdeh,
the Samsung one works perfect so far. I wasn't told whether the screen was a refurbished one but I would be surprised if it was... after all the screen is glued to the backlid so that's why they had to replace the lid as such. The lid and screen has no signs of usage so I am assuming it was a brand new one.
Cheers,
Rob

Mar 19, 2013 3:52 PM in response to Rob-zhby ashdeh86,Hi Rob,
Thanks for the reply much appreciated.
The reason I ask how is the screen is that some have reported that the replaced Samsung display has a yellow tint on white backgrounds. I was wondering if you had this issue or not.
Thanks,
ash

Mar 24, 2013 8:40 AM in response to ashdeh86by ashdeh86,Hi Guys,
So I took my mbp retina in today for a screen replacement. They did it in an hour and they reassure me its a brand new retina display. So far everything looks good but I will be doing further tests. It has been replaced with a Samsung display.

Mar 27, 2013 8:47 AM in response to RonnieSanby Andrew Kenward,Hi all
I have a macbook pro retina 13" late 2012 model bought in jan 2013 with a white dot in the lower middle of the screen. Which i have lived with for now. But can't any longer.
Have just booked a genius appointment to get them to look at it and hopefully replace it. I booked it all online. Rather straight forward.
Hopefully they will solve the issue.

Mar 29, 2013 4:15 PM in response to Surge74by Chuck Gould,Funny, I had a spot on my 1998 14" Wallstreet's display - and, some uneven lighting to boot.
(No dead pixels though, so I decided to live with it (which I did until the TiBook G4s came out).)
Just for a data point: I have a mid-2012 rMBP (week 46) with a perfect LG display. Purchased mid-Feb.

Mar 29, 2013 4:23 PM in response to Chuck Gouldby FluxArc,I'm pretty sure every single one of us would chose our retina display's over anything available even 5 years ago, much less 10 or 15 years ago. Alas it's 2013 and we paid good money for a good product and white spots don't really meet that expectation. Once I'm done my courses, I look forward to getting my display replaced.
On a side note, I do wonder what happens to these displays when they're found defective. It would be sad if they're destroyed, which is likely what happens ... Even if they were given to people who accidently break their displays, that would be better.
