Mar 29, 2013 4:34 PM in response to FluxArcby Chuck Gould,I was only making the point that Steve was alive and well when there were defective displays back in '98. I totally agree one shouldn't accept a defective display. (And, while $2500 - >$3000 is expensive, it's only relative to current technology costs. That 1998 Wallstreet 14" 292MHz set me back $6700 or so - in 1998 dollars.)
My data point on my rMBP was simply to state it's not all rMBPs having display problems (image retention, Mura, or whatever). Folks forget it's mostly negative experiences that get posted.

Apr 1, 2013 8:56 AM in response to ashdeh86by Hh hh,Hi ashdeh86
Over the last few months I have also noticed an increasingly prominent white spot in the bottom of my macbook retina screen (late June 2012 model). Initially I hoped it would sort itself out but soon realised this was optimistic, yet I have been unable to find time to take it in to an Apple Store to check if I can have my display replaced due to the closest one to me being almost two hours away. However, I'm visiting London next week and so will have plenty opportunity to visit an apple store, but before I go I'd love it if you could answer a few of my questions about the process as it would be a nightmare if after all the effort I didnt have the correct paperwork with me etc. and so could not have it fixed.
Did you need to show them your purchase receipt or any other paperwork or did you simply walk in with the mac?
I see you said that you went to the store but then had to return for an appointment for them to replace the screen, do you know if it would be possible for them to repair/replace the mac on the day or alternatively, am I able to arrange a specific appointment time where they would repair/replace the screen, without them having seen the fault beforehand?
Many thanks taking the time to read this. I hope you are now enjoying your macbook pro as it should be, and are hopefully not experiencing any issues with the new Samsung diplay.

Jun 11, 2013 1:09 PM in response to Hh hhby FluxArc,I just got my screen replaced. I booked an genius appointment, they checked my serial number, looked at the screen and said, "yep, it needs to be replaced". They gave me a workorder to bring it in on a Monday evening and I had it at opening on Tuesday morning. The replacement screen, unfortunatly, has a very noticable yellow tint. I went through the color calibration and got it fixed up (although it sacrifices a bit of brightness).
The whole task cost me nothing as my laptop (and every Macbook Pro Retina for that matter, for at least the next week) is under warranty.

Jul 7, 2013 7:42 AM in response to RonnieSanby lazarusnine,Just a little note to say that I had a similar issue crop up with my screen after a year of owning the MacBook Pro Retina. It happened once before after a few weeks, and the screen was replaced by an authorised Apple reseller. When it happened again after a year, I was worried the Geniuses would give me a hard time, but I went to a local Apple Store. After showing them the spot on the screen, they took it away and within 45 minutes, I had a brand new screen and my computer back in my possession. It's times like these that I'm grateful for Apple Care. Of course, why these screens (Samsung in all instances I've experienced) are having these problems in the first place is an issue that should likely be addressed. Anyway, particular thanks to Omar at the Apple Store in Leeds. Good luck to those with similar issues. Let's hope I get another year of use before having to do that again.

Jul 18, 2013 2:06 PM in response to RonnieSanby ferris1003,I had the white spot show up on my 3 week old rMBP last year and the screen was replaced without issue. The white spot showed up again on the replacement screen a few weeks back and I took it in to the Apple store today to have it replaced a 2nd time before my current AppleCare expires. To my suprise, the genius stated this was an LCD bruise due to me closing the laptop on something or placing something with quite a bit of weight on the back of my laptop when closed. I was astonished and inquired about this being a problem previously and with zero physical damage to the laptop (being in close to pristine condition) how this could be. They didn't seem to care and supposedly consulted with other geniuses in back who came to the same conclusion. After speaking with a manager, the same conclusion was drawn and they even stated my first screen replacement (when the computer was 3 weeks old...) was an exception due to it being a very new machine.
Luckily after the above shenanigans I also pointed out the bright pixel that had formed and they changed their song and dance completely, checking my laptop in for a screen replacement. I'm still very displeased at this point and discouraged from purchasing the extended AppleCare knowing that stores can essentially say "Nope, not covered - go pound sand" at any point with little recourse. Just a heads-up for the many many people having the same exact white spot issue!

Aug 8, 2013 1:17 PM in response to RonnieSanby bilby91,I'm having the same issue with my 15' rmbp. My display was replaced some month ago because of a mura and some dead pixels, this is the second time it happens in less than an year. I send my macbook to two different authorized reseller and receive the same response from apple, i had applied pressure to the display. This is very disappointing from apple. I'm currently waiting for call from some executive relation guy at apple to see what happens.

Sep 25, 2013 6:35 PM in response to RonnieSanby gannawil,Same problem as everyone else here. Am I skrewed if I don't have applecare?

Oct 6, 2013 10:44 AM in response to gannawilby Wim Haanstra,I am having the same issue now. I noticed the spots last week, but now my Apple is older than a year.
I will contact Apple support tomorrow, but I am probably screwed.

Oct 15, 2013 11:21 AM in response to Wim Haanstraby MAF9915,Same issue with me.
I have one of the first rMBP 15. Unfortunately I have two white bright spots on my display since roughly 3 months, but warranty is still 30 days left.
I went to the apple story, where they opened a replacement order because of defective display. This was rejected by some intransparent 3rd party supplier that said it was "due to force from the other side". My MPB does not show any signs of force nor do I remember how this could have happened.
- Apple rejects my warranty claim without any further information - no tests, no proofs - only with a fotograph of my screen
- Apple does not give written rejection to my warrenty claim, upon my request I was asked to ask for this in writing (very unprofessional!)
- Apply does NOT give any other possible solution to my problem with a USD 3000 laptop
Does anybody else experience this service behavior? (otherwise only know by super cheap rip-off telecom providers)
At least I teach service economics in university, so this will make a nice case study for my students. Another brick in the wall why "leaders tend to loose".

Nov 5, 2013 11:30 AM in response to MAF9915by LanaSB,I just discovered multiple white spots on my rMBP, one over the Safari icon and one over the Downloads icon in the dock. These seem to be common spots, as per people on this thread. I wonder if there are any cables connecting there that's causing the light leak?
Not happy to hear about what seems to be a recent change in customer service behavior - all of you guys who are blamed for damaging your screens - that's not the right way to handle these issues!
I've scheduled an appointment at the Genius bar for Thursday, but now I'm worried that I will get the same pushback. At this point, I've had HW issues with every Apple product I've owned and I've had parts as well as units replaced. It's getting old. I really don't want to end up with yet another screen replacement (had that on my old pre-retina MBP). At this point, I'd like a replacement unit.
Are there any power words I could use in my conversation with the Genius to make sure the issue gets handled properly and I get a replacement unit? My laptop is under Apple Care and it's from the first batch of retinas from 2012. Any advice would be appreciated!

Dec 2, 2013 1:06 AM in response to LanaSBby Gluehhops,I also have this trouble with obviously new apple service policy regarding display issues
- Mid 2012 rMbP
- LCD with 3 white spots on the lower left corner for the second time
- got replacement 3 months before
Now went to same apple service provider and they told me after requesting a warranty repair at apple and turning in some iphone ( !) pictures of the display that this was self-caused! They indeed accused me to have caused exactly the same damage, they repaired some months ago without any problem.
Regarding the fact, that there is absolutely no surface damage and the roughest condition my mbp has to handle is - from time to time - the chaos on my desk, thats a cheek!
Has anyone of you handled it to get a replacement during the last weeks?
Here's a picture of the screen:
