iTunes 10.6.3 not importing mp3 files but will play the mp3 files

Playing music in iTunes will automatically add it to iTunes.

Right click - Show in Finder.

Where is the file located?

weird, i can add the music to a new playlist but it wont show up in the actualy 'Music' tab on my itunes even when I search for it, wont find it....so weird?

but only when match is on. when it's off, i can import the mp3s that won't import while match is on.

be advised: it looks like turning match off and then back on resets it. not just a toggle.

Also have this problem. Turning off Match didn't seem to work either. Bothersome.

I have spent an hour trying to import an mp3 I downloaded from NPR into iTunes. It will not do it. What gives? I checked all the import settings and tried multiple times. Please fix this.

Same problem. Playing in iTunes doesn't add it to the Library. I can drag and drop and it seems to add to the list, but then it disappears.

It seems to be a "display" issue. I had the same thing and after reading this post, decided to convert the files to AIFF and add them. Same deal, didn't show up. So I converted them to AAC and added them. That last time-- all 3 versions (MP3, AIFF and AAC) suddenly showed up. Not sure why it does it though. Obviously it's a bug.

Thanks for the update. I just found a workaround myself. I'm working in WavePad and trying to save the audio MP3 file to a playlist--which isn't taking it. Or didn't seem to be. Saving to the desktop then drag/drop into an new file seemed to add it to the Library. Not saying this will work for anyone else and it is cumbersome. Will try ACC conversion.

Well, I am embarrassed to admit that I was the problem. iTunes will import mp3's. It just doesn't put them where you expect, unless you go into the properties of the mp3 and change them PRIOR to importing them. So, be sure when you download a file, first save it to Desktop (in Windows). Then, right click each file, choose "Properties", then choose the "Details" tab, and go through each of these fields and make sure all information matches the way you want it to show up in iTunes. iTunes indexes files via this information! After correcting the file's properties, THEN import the file. Works fine. I'm a dolt.

Turning off iTunes match allowed me to import the two mp3 albums I downloaded from eMusic that wouldn't otherwise show up in my music library. iTunes Match basically ***** and I won't be renewing my subscription.

Any resolution to this? It is not an iTunes match issue, since I do not have iTunes Match on this computer. I can rip CDs fine, but dragging and dropping files will not. I ghet the plus sign too, but the files never get added. Grrr, frustrating.
