Having trouble importing photos

When I try to import my photos & videos, I receive the following message "no new pictures or videos were found on this device" when in fact I have over 800. How do i fix this?

I had the exact same issue on my Windows 7 PC. Recently when I plugged in my iPhone I started getting the "No new photos or videos" message. Instead of using Windows to download my photos & videos I have always been using Windows Photo Gallery to download. However Photo Gallery had also started showing me the same message "No new photos or videos". Here's what worked for me:

1. Opened Windows Explorer

2. Under "Computer" selected "My iPhone" ("My iPhone refers to the name of my iPhone")

3. Right clicked on "My iPhone"

User uploaded file

4. The Import Pictures and Videos dialogue box popped up and it scanned all the pictures & videos on my phone and the "Import" button was active. If I had clicked on this button I'm pretty sure it would have downloaded all the pics & videos (~1800) from my iPhone. I did not want to download all pics & videos but only the latest ones.

5. Opened up Photo Gallery

6. Clicked on the "Import" button (Upper left hand corner under the "Home" menu/ribbon)

7. The "Import Photos and Videos" dialogue box popped up and My iPhone and my Printer/Scanner icons were displayed in it

User uploaded file

8. Double-clicked on My iPhone icon and the Windows "Import Pictures and Videos" dialogue box popped up. It scanned all my pics & videos on my iPhone and discovered the New Pics & Videos (as it used to do in the past)

9. Clicked on the "Import" button and all new Pics & Videos got downloaded to my PC

Make sure you have iCloud app installed on to your windows PC
Set up a folder where you want to download all your icloud pictures.

Once you see all the pictures in your iCloud folder (that you selected) do the following steps on your phone:

Go to Settings

Photos

iCloud Photo Library --> Turn if off

It will give you an option to download all icloud photos on to your phone, I didn't opt for it since I didn't have enough space and all my pictures anyways were in iCloud folder that I had chosen after downloading iCloud app.

Once you turn it off, connect your phone again to Windows PC

This time the PC will be able to scan all the picturs and videos and you will be able to use import wizard. (it might give error for couple of files -'it gave to me', i ignored the files with errors and was able to download all the files successfully and clear up my phone space.

hope this helps.

I had this problem also - I would plug in my iPhone and was told all my pictures were already imported. It turns out that they were - right to iCloud when I took my pictures, and then down to photos when the photos app launched. In other words, I had turned on "iCloud Photo Library" in my iPhone's Photo Settings, which uploads all pictures I take directly to iCloud (unfortunately I had the Cellular Data option turned on and maxed my data allocation - so be sure to turn that off so it only uploads to iCloud when your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi). So when I launched photos on my Mac, and looked at the photos already there, pictures I took from just that morning were already in photos, so of course it would say they were already loaded.

I hope this helps someone!

Hoping this solution might help:

Upgraded to iOS 11.2.2. Suddenly importing photos to my Win 7 PC doesn't work anymore, even though it's worked for years. "No new pictures or videos were found on this device". Thanks Apple. So much for making my day easier.

2 hours later, after trying all the "fixes" in this thread and many others without any success, here's what worked for me AND without deleting any passwords on iPhone or making changes to hidden files on PC.

Connect iPhone via USB. After a few seconds, the dreaded "No new pictures . . ." message comes up. Close this message.

Open File Explorer.

You'll see your iPhone listed there, providing you heard a beep when you connected iPhone and the "No new pictures" displayed and was closed by you.

In my case, I see "xxxx iPhone 6" listed on the left along with any other drives I have on my PC.

No twisty (little triangle) to its left (it was there prior to iOS 11.2.2) so I'm guessing that's why the PC reports that there are no new pictures. I.e. if there is a twisty, then Windows can tell that there are sub-folders within the iPhone. If no twisty, then most likely Windows cannot see any sub-folders (where all your pictures etc are stored).

Click "xxxx iPhone 6" (or whatever your iPhone calls itself) and wait for a few seconds.

When the iPhone sub-folder Internal Storage shows up in the File Explorer panel on the right (or below iPhone on the left if you click the twisty), Right-Click "xxxx iPhone 6" and choose the option "Import pictures and videos".

Magically, File Explorer returns to its proper behaviour: it can now see all the sub-folders on the iPhone that contain your pictures & videos and begins searching through these sub-folders to find any new pictures or videos. Along the way, it shows you which sub-folder it is searching and how many new pictures of videos it finds. I.e. just like it used to do.

When it has finished doing this, it asks you, as you want it to, to import new pictures and videos. Click that option and all proceeds as it did before, depending upon the import options you have set up previously. All my new pictures and videos are now stored safely on my PC where they cannot be accidentally deleted from iCloud and will be backed up outside the PC the next time I run my PC backup program of choice.

Sigh! Back to doing my normal work that I expected to have finished 2 hours ago.

June 2017 - Having had the same problem 'No new photos or videos' on my iPhone when I tried to transfer photos to my laptop, I tried some of the fixes on this thread (others seemed too complicated for me!) and nothing worked. However, quite by accident, I opened iTunes on my laptop (windows 7) and got a pop-up to say my 'session had expired'. I signed back in to iTunes and straight away I got the usual pop-up asking if I wanted to transfer photos from my phone to Windows photo gallery (my phone was still connected to laptop by USB cable) and it worked fine!
