not turning on while connected to power source

hey, connected my ipod touch to the computer, it is drained of battery....usually after about 5 minutes it will start up, but this time the little apple icon is appearing for about 60 seconds and then the entire screen will go black, for about 2 seconds, and then the apple icon will reappear.

is this a problem with the cord? battery of the ipod? just the ipod in general?!

it's only 2 years old for goodness sake! and my macbook just crashed last week too....what a horrible week, especially with school work due!

any help would be greatly appreciated

What happens if you try a hard reset? Does that help? To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough fo the Apple logo to appear.

Otherwise, try manually putting the device into recovery mode, connecting to iTunes and restoring it using the instructions in this Apple support document.
