Q: Has anyone got a solution for the inability to update or reinstall itunes 10.6.3 on a windows 7 64 bit computer

I have been unable to update or reinstall Itunes to my windows 7 64 bit computer.  I have tried most of the suggestions to date to no avail.  My outcome is a dialog box that says itunes was not installed. . .  At one point, it created a situation where my CDDVD drive was disabled but a windows troubleshooter got that back working citing a "class filter driver problem" that it repaired.  Also, Itunes comes up and plays from the optical drive (and the hard drive) but will not write to the CD or refresh my podcast list.  Anyone?

My outcome is a dialog box that says itunes was not installed

What's the precise text of that error message, please? (There's a few different ones I can think of that you might be getting.)

The installation program finishes by saying that itunes was sucessfully installed.  After opening itunes, however, an itunes dialog box says "iTunes was  not properly installed.  If you wish to import or burn CDs you need to reinstall iTunes"

A partinally functional iTunes appears after closing that dialog box  It shows iTunes 10.6..3.25 under "help about".

The library won't refresh and an attempt to burn a disk results in the message "disc Recording not found..."

    many thanks.

iTunes was  not properly installed.  If you wish to import or burn CDs you need to reinstall iTunes"

That can be trouble with the GEAR drivers, but I think we'd better doublecheck that.

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?

In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:

    dvdcd diagnostics.png

    ... and click "Next".

When you get through to the final screen:

... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here.

    ... yeah, GEAR driver trouble.

With that one, I'd start with solution 3 from the following document:

I installed new GEAR drivers from their website and everything is ok now.  Who are you?  This is probably the first time I have gotten clear, direct, and correct advice from any tech support source, company or individual.  Usually, I get a clue that leads me to a solution.  Terrific!

    Thanks so much!

I'm embarrassed now. Just a support volunteer who's been around a while, and in this case the information you were able to provide pointed us towards a reasonably-high-percentage play.

Glad you got things working again.

Installed latest itunes update and computer tried to burn a playlist to CD and realized computer no longer recognizes my CD/DVD drive. After doing some data mining, found out from community this is an long standing APPLE problem- which doesn't get much tech support in terms of fixes. I have an HPPavillion DV6 64 bit, Windows 7 OS . After reading an earlier complaint from 2009 in the support community,  I ran diagnostics from ITunes which gave the following result. Can someone please help? (I'm not enough of a techie to know what I'm doing or how to locate /reinstall CD drivers. I am searching for driver disc but cannot locate.)
