I have just replaced my old eMac, and want to recycle it. So I need to wipe the HD. I tried to use Disc Utilities, and it wouldn't do it. I went to the page to restore/erase, etc. but when I selected my HD, the button for 'erase' was grayed out. Any suggestions?

How do I do that? I can start up with extensions off, but I never heard of starting up from another machine.
Install or clone the OS onto an external hard drive, or use a compatible Mac OS X install DVD.

I have the original System Discs. So tell me if I remember this correctly. I insert the disc and then start up holding down the C key until the happy face icon comes up. Then I can go to utilities and do the erase. Is this correct?
