How do open a .dmg file on a PC?

I'm on a PC, inspiron 1420, and attempting to watch a video in Quicktime. I needed to download the xvid component to Quicktime, and the component is in a .dmg file. I'm unable to open the .dmg file - any suggestions??

Please help, this is my daughter's school play and I'd like to see it 🙂

You can mount .dmg files in Windows using the commercial MacDrive software which is mainly intended for allowing Windows to access Macintosh HFS+ formatted hard disks. However if the Xvid codec is in a .dmg it is likely that it contains only the Mac version of the codec. In fact all I could find suggests there is no Xvid for QuickTime for Windows available.

However apparently the free 3ivX component for QuickTime for Windows will successfully play Xvid files. You can get this from here http://www.3ivx.com/download/windows.html
