I emptied my trash. Can I recover it?

I mistakenly placing files I need in the trash, then I emptied the trash. Can I recover those files?

iMac (27-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.4), Did not use Secure empty

Not unless you backup, if you have a recent Time Machine backup then restore if not then now you know why backup is invaluable because you just lost everthing that was in the trash!

If no backup then no, not unless you want to buy an empty external hard drive and commercial software such as Datarescue, Filesalvage, or others, and recover all the files on your hard drive, then sort through the mess trying to get the ones you need.
