iPad 2 Newsstand crashes every time

I used to read my online magazines (eg. TIME, Sports Illustrated, Fortune) via their respective apps.

Since Apple consolidated these magazine apps onto the Newsstand app, I have not been able to access any content.

Each time I launch one of the magazine apps in Newsstand, it leads me to the Store for that particular magazine.

When I sign in to that magazine and go to Library, the app crashes.

I experience the same issue regardless of the magazine I try to access.

Please help.

First, double tap the home button fast and then some app icons should appear on the bottom of the screen. Then just swipe through the apps untill you see news stand. Once you see the newstand Icon on the bottom of the screen, hold the app icon down until you see an x on the top left. Then tap it. It should end the process. This is NOT deleting it. (Make sure the app is not open when you do this). Once you end the proccess, hold down the power button with the home button for about 10 seconds to turn if off. After it turns off, wait 5 seconds and you can turn the ipad back on. If the app doesnt work after that, delete it and then reinstall it. I hope this helps!

Tonight, I bought a 1-year subscription to TIME magazine via Newsstand, and although I was hesitant to do it at first because it's the most I've ever spent on the App Store, I decided to take the plunge. However, as soon as I did so, the app crashed. I went back into it, and none of the TIME magazine covers were showing up. It gave me the option of downloading the June 25 issue, but when I clicked "Download," the screen when gray and did nothing. So I went back to home, double clicked the home button, removed it from the bottom tray, and re-opened the app. This time I went to library. The app crashed instantly. I turned the iPad 2 off and on again, same issue. I deleted and restarted the iPad, same issue. I did a reset, and same issue, even after deleting and re-installing the app AGAIN. I just spent over $30 on an annual subscription of a magazine app that doesn't work. This is unnacceptable and I'm pretty unhappy!!!!! Please help, I don't know what else to do!!!!!!

If you really want it to work, and dont mind spending some time, you can do a restore - only if you have a previous backup. Also, you can contact itunes tech support and they will give you a full refund if you ask nicely. I asked for some refunds due to purchasing on wrong account, and they gave me $20 something dollars right back in my account. Its also possilbe its a bug in the apple. Send a bug report to the developers.

I'm having the same issue, and its with one of the publications under the Time Warner umbrella (which seems to be the recurring theme here). In my case, its the EW magazine. As the OP noted, problem seems to have started when they went from it being a standalone application to a title within the newsstand.

I can open the newsstand just fine, but when I click on the EW app, it launches then crashes a second later. No problems with any of the other (non Time Warner) publications in my newsstand.

I tried the fix recommended by dan, but it did not work. That said, when I attempted this fix, the icons at the bottom of the screen displayed with red dashes (not black x's) so maybe something got lost in translation?

Other apps are crashing this morning as well. This was the message from beeline on facebook:

Due to some changes Apple made to their servers, various Beeline games are crashing during startup. We’re working to fix the problem. In the meantime you should be able to get into the games and manage them as needed by shutting down your device’s internet connection (airplane mode) before trying to open the game.

That solutions does not help if you want to download the latest issue in your subscription, but I think it goes a long way to explaining the problem. I would advise patience before doing a restore.

Same problem for me. All Time, Inc. magazine apps are having this trouble as are apps with similar formatting like Sunset and Automobile. Wired and Smithsonian which look like they have a different format are working fine as is The NYT. My wife's iPad is having the same trouble with Time, Inc.

I went through the usual proceedure of deleting and reinstalling the apps and doing a restore on the iPad.

I contacted People Magazine (through the support page, linked to from the App in the iTunes store...). Sounds like a wide-spread known issue:

Thanks to all for your responses.

Thanks to aeflynn, for reaching out to PEOPLE magazine, and to others like yourself who likely raised Apple's awareness to the widespread issue.

Glad to inform everyone that all seems well now. I am able to access all content (TIME, Sports Illustrated, Fortune, Entertainment Weekly) that I have subscriptions to.
