How can you remove downloaded images from an iPhone?

My phone is reaching its max and I need to clear downloaded images to free up space. How do I remove old images that have been downloaded?

iPhone 3G, iOS 5.1.1

Content is removed the same way it is placed on the device, by syncing with iTunes and telling iTunes what to actually sync to the device.

Downloaded images are moved from an iPhone the same way you move images taken with the camera... http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083

Of course, you can also just delete them from the iPhone... tap an image and tap the Trashcan icon to delete.

Downloaded images are not synced and thus cannot be unsynced. 😉
