LC III Monitor

Can I use a newer HP Pavilon M70 (or something to that extent) 15" VGA monitor with a Mac LC III? I have this monitor lying around, and I'm looking at a Mac LC III for light use.

Thanks

Ian,

A heads-up: the monitor adapter alone can cost as much as or more than a complete LCIII system is worth on the used market.

Some adaptors are also getting hard to find. There are several types and it may take expensive trial-and-error testing to get the right combo for your monitor.

I'm not saying "don't," but want you to be aware of the cost issues. If you want to do this for a hobby†, go for it by all means. If you need to do this for a serious computing need, consider setting your sites higher than an LCIII.

Ian,

One man's trash is another man's treasure.

If you are serious about Macs as a hobby, do not forget thrift stores and recyclers. People are paying to dispose of old computers while others are paying to buy them. G3s now sell for $5 to $15 at the right store. Once you move on up from the LC form factor you can use the LCIII as a frisbee. : ) Enjoy the hobby.

Made me laugh! Our Performa 475 (same as LCIII) is still a "going concern," but is so limited by RAM (36MB) and HD (160MB) issues that it's hard to sit down and play with it with so many more capable Macs habituating the house. It's stayed around because the kids, even though they're now grown, still remember some of the old edu-games and other distractions on the 475, and like to run them for "old time's sake."
