Of what version & generation of Air do you speak?
Not to much at the moment, it seems from reading on here that Apple say
"this is user damage, so not covered by Apple care"
Did no one tell you you should NOT open and close the display on a MacBook Air ?????!!!!!!!
Custom mini.
It is the older version 2008. And it is not user damaged. The lid became very loose then one day the hinge cracked.
It's also four years old! Even AppleCare would have expired now. You might be able to pay Apple to fix it but it certainly wouldn't be covered under warranty anymore. Make an appointment at your local Apple Store and ask them.
This was a defective hinge issue that they had an extended warranty on. But because I was two months past the extended warranty they do not want to fix it. This is a specific issue with the hinge that they were aware of ---- Apple should stand behind their equipment, especially when it was a very specific problem --- it was not user damage.
So, you're of the opinion that Apple should just warranty devices for life? That would not be cost effective. The device you bought would have cost a great deal more than you paid for it they offered that, possibly even more than it would cost to get it repaired.
I don't believe anyone ever suggested (seriously) that what you're experience is user damage (though, as no one here has ever examined your MBA, we can't say for sure). It's still out of warranty.

When did it break: four years ago, yesterday?
"I was two months past the extended warranty"
Ah, never mind.
happened to me 3 days ago, i dont think they will repair it for free, i guess we better buy them from ebay.
Any luck having apple replace the macbook air hinge under the replacement program? http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2948 (It looks like the page was last modified on September 4th 2012). Is it worth having the apple store geniuses look at it or will it be a waste of time?
If not were you able to find replacement parts & fix the MBA yourself?
Thanks in advance
