Find My iPhone useless without SIM?

My brand new iPad 3 (wifi+cellular) has been stolen, and I had yet purchased a SIM card for it......

Even though it has GPS, the fact that it cannot connect to a network basically means that I am out of luck getting its location?

Thanks

If it connected to a network via Wifi, Find My iPhone could work. The GPS chip in a Cellular iPad does not require Cellular service. But the reality is most thieves are well versed in how to restore a stolen iPad as a new device, so it's probably lost for good.

Reporting it to Apple will not help you as Apple does not get involved in lost or stolen devices.

Reporting it to the police is the first thing you should do.

Next, change your Apple ID password. Then change your Mail Account(s) passwords and the passwords of any apps in which you have a credit card tied to it. For example, the Starbucks App.

Very sorry for your loss, but most stolen devices are never recovered.
