Q: Is Anyone Having MacBook Pro Retina Display Graphics Issues?

So, I'm wondering if anyone has been having issues with their new MacBook Pro w/ Retina Display graphics? I've installed all the updates and ran the diagnostics. Nothing appears to be wrong, but most of my animations or motions on the computer aren't fluent and are choppy. And at least once a day I'll run into an issue like this: http://d.pr/i/elqX

Just wondering if any of you are running into this issue. It also struggles with Flash (but I assume that is just something Adobe has to update on their end).

Cheers!

    Tayel-

This thread is already overloaded with folks with problems on the Retina display. To get the attention your problem deserves, you should start a new thread.

Try to include what model MacBook is giving you these troubles, and what version of Mac OS X you are running, and what Browser you are using.

I actually started a new thread for distorted web images on a Retina display. I also included a screenshot on the thread. Please let me know if you experience the same issue.

I am using 13" MacBook Pro with Retina Display, OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.1

Just wanted to share - I took my 15" rmbp in to the Genius Bar as multiple resets did not fix my graphical issues. They've had it for a couple days, determined it's a faulty logic board, and are replacing it.

Can you describe your graphical issues?

Yup - was getting stupidly low FPS on Starcraft 2, even when forcing the discrete video card.  Took screenshots showing the difference between the Retina and my MacBook Air - the Air was getting 30FPS while the Retina was getting 15FPS, using the same settings.

They kept it for a couple days to run some diagnostic tests on it, determined the logic board was faulty, and replaced it free of charge.

15 inch Macbook Pro with Retina Display

Recently the display is flickering, but only part of the display.  While I can't see what is flickering, it doesn't look like the same color scheme that I have on the display.  For example this page is mostly white, and the flickering part, like a 1 to 2 inch stripe appears for less than a second and is usually dark colors.

Is any one else seeing this?

    Rick

    Hello World!

I too, have had the same issue.  As this was happening, I chose to take it in to the Apple Retail Store, the diagnostics revealed that there was a RAM failure.  Obviously, due to the nature of this computer, that required ordering a new logic-board.  Once that came in, and was installed, it was very apparent that the issue hadn't been solved.  We then tried to boot the computer from an external drive, which proved that in fact, my issue, was not hardware.  So after an OS X re-install, and several other measures, we chose to backup, wipe the computer, and simply move individual files and settings over, one-by-one.  After that, the repair lasted a total of two weeks, but there were no further issues regarding lag.  Though I did get my computer back in a state that consisted of scratches, and parts literally rolling around on the inside.  And about an hour later, my computer's battery drained from ~80% to 5% in about 10 minutes, and it would not charge again, so Apple offered a brand-new unit. No more issues thus far, but this proves that the problem is, in fact, software related.

If I may be so bold, I suggest that a third possibility exists. You are right, it doesn't sound like a hardware issue, and some aspects do suggest a software problem. Yet while I strongly doubt it could have been anything you've done it sounds like a classic 'wetware error'

Thanks for the timely reply, Typh0nx!

Unfortunately, I am unaware of said term "wetware".  My sincere apologies, and, if course, you don't mind my asking, may you elaborate on your comment?

I have a 15" Retina MacBook Pro, and while most of most the choppy gui transitions have been cleared up, on occasion, my screen still flickers like the GPU is struggling to maintain a constant refresh rate even when I'm not doing anything. It's upsetting. I took it to my local Apple supplier and they kept it overnight trying to replicate the issue but they couldn't and I had to keep it.

    EDIT

Mine is one of the 2.3GHz models before they did the spec bump, so maybe the slightly newer models don't have these issues? I'd be interested to know.

I have noticed this once. It was strange, and over so fast I wasnt sure what I saw. I believe this is software related some of the most recent updates. I also got a new logic board installed for another issue recently so that could be related too.
