I use notes quite frequently to write down ideas. Lately I've noticed something weird and annoying though. Everytime I start the app and add to a note, another copy of the note is saved. It's getting so I have 10 and 12 copies of some notes.
I do not have sync notes on iTunes checked and I don't think it's happening becasue of my iCloud backup becasue I have notes switched OFF.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is it a glitch or am I doing something wrong?
I too followed the instructions, and lost all my notes, and don't have time machine. Can you please tell me how to get my 2 years of writing back!? I'm freaked out right now.

I followed your instructions to stop the notes from multiplying, by entering
"
rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes"I didn't relise however that this would delete all my notes!!
Is there anyway to undo this?
I have checked my icloud and all my notes have deleted off there as well.
Please help to get my notes back.

I found this fix, but it will delete your notes, so first Export them as PDFs or screenshot them or however you want to do it so that you don't lose them!
Then go to the Finder (by clicking anywhere on desktop), hold down the Option key as you click "Go" on the top menu...holding down Option makes "Library" pop up under the Go menu. Click Library, find the folder called "Containers" and open it, find the folder that ends in com.apple.Notes and Delete it. Then quit the Notes app and reopen it.
Hey guys I've finally found the answer! (it won't erase your notes for sure!)
1. Go to System Preferences > iCloud.
2. Sign into iCloud with your Apple ID.
3. Untick the Notes checkbox.
It definitely work for me and I do not have mutiple notes anymore. The only problem with that i that iCloud will not back up your notes on your Mac (but its ok for me).

Thankfully, this has a rather straightforward fix.
1. Open Terminal. (
Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app2. Quit the Notes.app.
3. Enter in the terminal WITHOUT the quotes "
rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes"This probably will work.
it may switch the icloud option for notes off so to solve this go to
System prefrences/mail contacts & calanders/icloud... make sure notes is ticked.
Let me know if this workes.
I have exactly the same problem. The current Notes document keeps creating new documents with the same name every time it should be autosaving (every 10 seconds or so). Also Notes created on MacBook Air do not appear on iPhone but Notes created on iPhone DO appear on MacBook Air.
Any suggestions?
it is because when you back up you devise you back up your notes too. you probably press 'sync notes'? well if you do, that puts them onto your phone again every time you sync, so back up your notes, but dont sync them afterwards. hope it helped 🙂
I experienced this frustrating thing on my macbook air with Yosemite. With some stroke of luck I checked my notes again and on the left panel i` clicked on the Notes below All On My Mac. Started typing there and there is no multiple saving.

I did, however, finally figure out how to delete them by holding the lower left manual "control" key down on my keyboard with my LEFT HAND then simultaneously clicking the title of my note ( on the left hand side there is a list of all my note titles) title and it FINALLY gives me a delete option.
I managed to solve this (for myself) yesterday. I was being regularly prompted to login to a Google/GMail account which is not my main account. I think for some reason I've managed to link this into my email client - Apple Mail. The notes saving problem appeared after an iOS upgrade. anyway logging into the Gmail account through iOS preferences has stopped the multiple saving antics of Notes. I hope this a help to someone else. I was getting very disappointed and not being able to use Notes.

I resolved this by changing the default account to the icloud. I think it was trying to auto save and that was why it was duplicating. All my messages are still there but I am no longer getting duplication.
I had this problem on my macbook air and iPad. I am running OSX 10.9.5. Default account was iCloud. ganged this to "on my mac" and back again to iOS. Multiple saving no longer happens!! I wonder how long that will last?

On my Mountain Lion devices all works great, but on my iOS devices I get multiple time stamped copies.
Have the same problem with syncing Notes via IMAP on Mac OS Mountain Lion and iOS on iPad / iPhone. Worked perfect 2 years before, very frustrating.
