Q: Why do I have printer paused?

My Printer is paused on all of my printers.  How do I resolve this?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4), on all of my associated printers

A paused printer indicates a broken connection between the Mac and the printer. In some situations you can just open the printer queue from Print & Scan and press the Resume button. If this only results in the printer queue pausing again then check the physical connection between your Mac and printer (if you're using a USB cable) or that the Mac and printer/s are connected to the same network (if you're using wireless).

Hi Thank you for your response. I use three different printer depending where I am situated so it couldn't be the usb cable as I have tried to resume and on all occasions i have been unsuccessful.  Could it be an issue with my permissions?  I have been experiencing difficulties moving files to folders and thought that issue maybe lionked somehow?

Yes, the pausing could be due to permissions. But the printing system is core and not affected by the same permissions on your home folder.

As a test you could create another user account on the Mac and try printing a new document when logged into that account. If that prints then it can indicate a permissions issue. But I would expect it to suffer the same result as your normal account.

Another test. If you remove the printer for a particular location and add it again, does it pause if you try to print?
