Retina Trackpad update not available for download.

I have been experiencing some minor glitches with the trackpad of the Retina MBP and after some short research realized that Apple already issued a update resolving this problem. But when starting software update this is not available to me. Under system preferences i looked at installed software and neither could i locate it there. My system is up to date.

So i downloaded the update manually (Trackpad Update 1.0.) but got a error message saying (Not supported on this system).

Very confusing Anyone else with a similar situation or answer?

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4), MBP Retina 2.6 i7 16Gb 512Flash

I'm in contact with the Apple Support team who have forwarded the issue to their engineering teams...

A few questions:

1) Exactly what problems are you experiencing with you trackpad? And how often?

2) Do you see an error message similar to the following in your kernel.log? (To access your kernel.log, open the Console application from Applications/Utilties and select kernel.log on the side bar. Search for "smcReadKeyAction" in the top right.)

kernel[0]: SMC::smcReadKeyAction ERROR PN2R kSMCBadArgumentError(0x89)

3) When was your MacBook Pro shipped? Before or after the 12 June release date of the trackpad update?

Thanks!

Ok well i hope they can resolve it somehow.. did they offer to replace it for you?

to answer your question..

1) Approximately 15-20% of the time when using the trackpad i notice the pointer shifting to the right when tapping it. This doesnt happen when i click the trackpad nor does the pointer move on its own. Just now and then.. it could be anywhere in any application. For example lets say im in safari and want to close the window using the red close window button, i place the pointer on it and when i tap the pad the pointer jumps to the right just.. less than a inch.

Also today for the third time my screen froze when on screensaver. Everything was still running, i can still hear itunes music but the screen is frozen and i get the beach ball. Had to push the power button off and restart.

2) Yes i get that Error messeage too.

3) After!

What does that Error message mean? And what exactly is going on with your trackpad..

Thanks!

No, they didn't. My trackpad is sometimes semi responsive and sometimes registers a second finger when I am trying to move the mouse... That way gestures are recognised that require two fingers even if only one finger is on the trackpad.

They only thing that helped (i.e. got rid of the problem for a couple of days) was reseting the SMC controller as follows: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3604

Let me know if this (partially) resolves your problem. In my case the trackpad started acting up again after 5 or 6 days.

I'll post an update once the support team contacts me.

The same thing happened to me. My MBP retina is shipped after June 12th and there's not update shown for the trackpad update on my update list. It my trackpad AND keyboard froze this morning and I had to reboot my laptop. I tried to reapply the update as indicated in http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1543, and it tells me "This software is not supported on your system". I double checked on about this mack ->more info, it states MacBook pro retina, mid 2012.

Anyone fixed this problem yet? Thanks in advance!

Apple Support hasn't yet suggested a fix... I also tried using "unpkg" to extract the actual firmware updater from the .pkg file available at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1543. When I run the application, I get the following screen, which indicates that my MBP has already been updated.

Despite all of this, the trackpad often does not respond at all and sometimes starts moving the mouse (only vertically) on its own. I can now only use my MBP with an external mouse.

If you are also experiencing this problem PLEASE post details of your system and the exact problem in this thread... The more attention this thread gets the more likely this problem will be resolved!

Same exact problem here. Macbook pro retina ordered June 11th, shipped June 18th. Everything's been perfect until last night when my trackpad began behaving the same way as described -- moving on its own vertically, not responding to multifinger gestures, clicking randomly. Tried installing the trackpad update and I get the 'not supported on this system' error. I do not see the above error message in my kernal.log. Is it a waste of my time taking it into the genius bar?

I ended up taking it to the geniuses. The person that helped me said that they had only seen the issue one other time so far, and didn't seem sure how to proceed. She said she thought erasing the machine and reinstalling the OS would be the answer, but didn't want to send me home with it only for it to fail again so they kept it over night. If the trackpad still had problems and wouldn't update after the reinstall I would get a new machine. Picked it back up the next day and so far no problems.

Well, here I am again. They were supposed to reinstall the OS and install the trackpad update but apparently the geniuses got as far as the reinstall and just gave it back to me. Trackpad started freaking out again moments ago and again the update says its not supported on my machine. Back to the geniuses I go. Not exactly what I would like to see with a $2400 purchase.

Took mine back again today, they immediately replaced it no questions asked. Also threw in extended apple care for free and a $100 gift card to the app store. Faith in apple restored. Interestingly I didn't even ask for the apple care. He said with any of their other computers you shouldn't need to bother, but because of the nature of the retina mbp construction, if ANYTHING goes wrong on the inside they basically replace the entire bottom half of the computer -- he wouldn't let me leave without apple care.

man that's brutal. i'd suggest anyone that's lucky enough to live near a store ALWAYS go to the store and deal with actual people. On a side note, the new machine they gave me is now experiencing screen glitches. browsing photos full screen in iphoto results in bizarre flickers, blacked out images, and just general bugginess. it's done it a few times and become glitchy/slow to scroll occasionally just browsing the web as well. I'm really kind of losing faith here and beginning to think they pumped out the thinnest product with the hugest screen as fast as possible and didn't really consider much else.
