how do I join my home windows network w 10.5

I a Macbook pro 15" running OS 8.5, and want to join my home network with computers running windows 7. I can't see the windows computers on the network, and want to be able to share files etc.

The Macbook accesses the network wirelessly, where the rest are both wired and wireless.
