Linear mouse acceleration

Hey,

am I the only one that can't use OS X with that odd mouse acceleration? I am using Windows since many years and there the cursor is doing exactly the same move as I do with my hand/mouse. For me it is not only annoying, I just can't use OSX. I tried much things like Steermouse and so on... i really tried everything. But is it that hard to get EXACTLY the same mouse performance with OSX as it is in Windows? I am browsing the internet now since about a half year. But I just can find all the time the same ways to make it even a bit better. Even too bad for my taste.

I am using a Magic Mouse and a USB Mouse (Logitech G9x). The USB Mouse more often. It is that hard that I even can't do something in photoshop and so on, because I am just annoyed after feeling that mouse performance.

Maybe somebody of you got a trick that i don't know... but also I hope some members of Apple do read this, and maybe will patch it?

I just can't understand it. I feel like I bought an awesome sportster without a steeringwheel. Just to imagine what I mean.

Yours faithfully

David 🙂

Although quite old, this thread was one of the first I found when googling, but it did not yet contain this solution I am now very happy with:

"USB Overdrive".

It installs into the system settings. I am using it with OS X El Capitan (10.11).

It also works for mouse wheel acceleration. Also it offers customization based on application or mouse device. Works fine with my Logitech Laser G3. It is Shareware, so you can try, but it will ask for 20$.

Another solution for just modifying mouse pointer speed/acceleration that worked was

"Steelseries exactmouse tool". Although not specifically build for Logitech mice, it worked with the G3 as well, but it does not have Mouse Wheel settings.

Come on, this issue is from 2012...

I can not count how often I googled a solution for this problem now.

My girlfriend bought a new, shiny mac. Everytime there is a problem and I want to do anything with this computer, I instantly get annoyed and frustrated.

An operating system is such a complicated bit of software with so many parts and features. I can't believe it is "mouse acceleration" which prevents me from using the OS. I really wanted to love MacOS, but at the moment I associate an unusable piece of software with it, which I can not even touch before retraining my hand motor skills for days. Scrolling and cursor movement is both completely screwed up for me.

I will never switch to MacOS completely, so either I switch all my windows and linux machines to have accelerated scrolling and cursor movement or no machine has it.

I'd love a free solution to this problem.

I've had the same problem....bought six PowerMacs and five MacBook Airs for our studio. We used to work on Windows computers and we cannot get used to the mouse behaviour of the Mac...it is choppy and very very annoying. We have sold the PowerMacs after two months en we still use the Airs for presentations etc(touchpad works fine)....I don't know the reason for this but it's a shame that there is no option to switch-off the accelleration...unbelievable...we have lost alto of money because of this....:(

Good luck! And don't look any further for a solution, we've been searching for it for two months....

Ah OK, I've never used a mouse on a mac (trackpad since 2004) and wasn't aware of this problem. Following X42's link, I came across this,

http://triq.net/articles/mouse-curve-app-its-done-when-its-done

though whether he ever finished it or not I'm not sure. You could try contacting the developer through the 'contact' link on the page (and a very nicely designed page it is. Bit jealous there!).
