Q: Delete Apple Community Discussions?

Hello, I am wondering how you can delete any discussions that I have created on the Apple Community website? They are embarrising to me because I keep moaning about technology alot, so I wanted to delete my rants from here but I don't know how. Also I seems to get abit looked down on by people twice my age who know ALOT about Apple XD (Yea i'm a nooby teenage girl) so it would be good to delete them. Thanks x

    Hi,

    I would concur (agree).

This Thread was started 3 years ago.

Only recently it was brought to the "top" again by someone adding to it.  (it used gto be that older threads got Archived so this did not happen)

Writing your Own Thread  will tend to mean the responses are aimed at you specifically based on the info you post.

I saw (and reported the images removed) the 3 posts this user made. More or less "pictures being worth a thousand words approach." Totally unrelated to the titular subject matter, much less my post to which the user replied. (the images were not much more helpful)

The 'unsteady' use of English prompted the native language suggestion.

yes but if you make a mistake you can't go back and change it, rant or not, which is frankly ridiculous and I don't believe exists anywhere other than in Apple Land !

Well, it is Apple's site - they own it and can make whatever rules they like; for that, see the Terms of Use which are quite clear.

Whether you like them or not, you agreed to them when you established an account here:

Same issue. This is my first time writing on this community forum and I am trying to delete one of my forum because of back and forth criticism from other community forums on my post.

Same answer as in the other thread you posted this: You cannot. You have 15 minutes from the time you post them to edit them. After that, they are, essentially, Apple's property and only Apple can make the decision to delete them. Generally, that's only done if they violate the terms of service and someone reports them as having done so. Unless your posts have personal information that would represent a threat to your privacy, it's unlikely that they would be removed.

These are open online forums - anyone in the world can post in them; some will agree with whatever anyone has posted and others will not. You cannot control other people's post and have to expect that not everyone is pleasant. Some overdo it in either/both directions. The best way to handle it: ignore their post.

    Hi,

Actually some of the helpful pictures in this Thread apply to the previous layout Apple used  for these forums and in fact no longer apply.

    Have fun with future posts.

I started this about two days ago and I am new at this. Yes, I am very repetitive with my posts. I understand they were so annoying, but I do not like when they do not answer my questions. This is a community forum and we have the rights to discuss any types of issues were are having whether we are satisfied with our products or questions about our products. This is a community posts where we can share our opinions and the community can help us answer our questions. I use this community discussion for people's opinions, but not to criticized an opinion. With Apple Technicians, I used them to help me with major and technical issues.

No, we don't have the "right" to discuss anything and everything. This is Apple's forum and we are required to abide by the Terms of Use to which we all agreed when we signed up.

    Apple Support Communities Use Agreement

Some of the things we're not allowed to do are speculate about future Apple products or Apple policies. Posts that are essentially only complaints (i.e. rants) are also not permitted. Polls are not permitted.

We are, however, allowed to disagree with and criticize other poster's opinions and ideas as long as it's done in a civil fashion.

I use this community discussion for people's opinions

These are technical support forums, made available by Apple for all users. We help with technical problems and some of the long time contributors are as knowledgeable (or sometimes more so) than any tech support person. And, we are all volunteers. We try to help with technical problems far more than issuing opinions. Take a look at the ToU using Meg's link - especially this:

Stay on topic. Apple Support Communities is here to help people use Apple products and technologies more effectively. Unless otherwise noted, do not add Submissions about nontechnical topics, including:

    1. Speculations or rumors about unannounced products.
    2. Discussions of Apple policies or procedures or speculation on Apple decisions

And, as mentioned, these forums are owned by Apple, so they are free to make and enforce any rules they like. You agreed to their terms when you established an account and your rights and responsibilities are spelled out in the ToU.

I do not like when they do not answer my questions.

No one does; however, as we are all volunteers scattered all over the world, we may a) not have a precise answer for you or b) the person who does is on the other side of the globe and won't see your question until tomorrow. If you want to make sure you get an answer, then I'd suggest you avail yourself of Apple tech support personnel.

    Hi,

I am afraid that you seemed to have missed the point.

This is a picture of the First Post or this Thread.

    First_post.png

I have pointed out the Date.

    It was four years ago.

That unfortunately means that much of the info on this Thread (which also drifts in it's topic areas) regarding how the Discussions/Forums/Communities work are out of date.

I never said you were annoying.

I would have been better though if you had started your Own Thread

It was because the one item in this Thread that told you how to do that contained a picture that I realised that the Thread is probably not that helpful to you

See Re: Delete Apple Community Discussions?  (this points to the point in the Thread I mentioned.)

Whilst that might mean someone might repeat the Pictures for the new layout I was hinting that I was not going to do so.

I have not seen any of your other Posts (I am only here as I am still subscribed to this Thread), so I am not bothered if you are repetitive or not.

As I only pointed out that some if not the majority of help in this Thread was out dated and never tackled the main points of your post I am also not sure why you have replied to me.

    To be clear.

There are several types of people who posts here.

Users such as myself, Meg St._Clair and babowa who have been posting here fro a while and have amassed a number of points.

There are Hosts (Moderators) who rarely post in a Thread  but will be doing the things behind the scenes such as moving Posts to the "right" Forum  and dealing with those that break the Terms of Use.

There are Community Specialist. These work for Apple and are supposed to answer in New Threads that have not been answered in a certain time frame.

That Time frame can vary for Community to Community depending how fast new Threads are started. In some areas it is about 24 hours if there is no response.  In some it is quicker but can be if the Thread has dropped off the "Front" page of that Forum.

The current Layout does not show us regulars when a new post has been added to a thread.

You can use CSS in your Browser to do this  which some of us do to find new Posts in Old Threads.

As I also said some of us stay Subscribed to every thread we have ever joined so that we get the emails announcing when they have been added to.

I am sorry if your posts have been ignored but maybe some of what I have written will highlight why that might be.

You are perfectly entitled to not like the answer you get.

Again I wish you well with future Questions.
