I have imac and following is its configuration.

System Version:Mac OS X 10.7.4 (11E53)

I have installed many stuffs in it and now its too slow.

So, what i want is to wipe everything and clean it up like the new one.

Basically I want to reset my imac to the original factory settings.

My mac didn't have any disk when I bought.

Please do help me.

Thank you

Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch

If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.

    Boot to the Recovery HD:

Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.

    Erase the hard drive:

    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.

Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.

    If 10.7.0 or later...

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitiion & use Disk Utility from there.

You can Erase the Disk & reinstall, but perhaps we can figure outyour problems with less drastic measures?

Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?

How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.

In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...

PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive

    Reboot, test again.

If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.

Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.

Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

I don't believe that Lion was ever available through install disks. It was sold on a USB at Apple Retail Stores for a while. While it is possible for you to burn the install package from the App Store to a disk to install it, that disk, once booted from, will still need to download the operating system from Apple's servers.

I have tried the procedure and I had a message error to say that the dick could not be deleted as it was not serialised . after the message i clicked ok and it shows up another disk (one being in red) which is the hard disk from the computer, and a new one with , this time, a description of the disk (320GB WDC WD3200AAJS-40H... Media)

Have I done something wrong? I tried to reset it to manufacturer setting with snow Leopard ( as I have lost the original Panther disk). Any further help would greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks
