Safari has stopped working! HELP!

Ok so I have been using safari for over a year now on my windows 7 hp pc. Recently however safari has "stopped working". When i open safari i get an error message stating "safari has stopped working" and then under that is a green loading bar stating "windows is checking for a solution." When i wait for a solution nothing happens and safari just shuts down. Ive tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling it but the same problem occurs. Ive even tried going into "uninstall a program" and repairing both safari and apple support center.....still no luck. Please help im using internet explorer right now and i hate is so much...i miss safari 😟

Fingers crossed, your Windows 7 will have been recording some additional information about those.

First, open your Action Center and expand "Maintenance". Click "View reliability history":

User uploaded file

Once the reliability report has been generated, look for Critical events for Safari generated at the time of the "Safari has stopped working" messages. Doubleclick the name Safari in the critical events. (Don't click View solution.) Here's a screenshot showing what to doubleclick:

You should see something that looks like the following screenshot:

🙂 many thanks.

Fault Module Name: ntdll.dll

Fault Module Version: 6.1.7601.17725

In earlier versions of Safari, that ntdll.dll result could indicate trouble with safari preference and settings files. But it's been a while since I can can recall seeing an example of that, so we'd better do a bit more digging to be on the safe side.

I'd like to check to see if the problem is systemwide, or if it is limited to a single Windows user account. (This is not a cure in itself, but may help narrow in on possible culprits.)

Create a new Windows User account on the PC with full administrative rights. Log out of your normal account and log into the new account. (Don't use Fast User Switching to move between accounts.)

Try launching Safari in the new user account. Does it launch properly in there, or do you get the same sort of behaviour as in the normal user account?

🙂 Thanks again.

The user-account-specific nature of the trouble suggests problems with the Safari settings and preference files in the Usual user account. (There's a different set of those in each different Windows user account.)

The "So-much-for-subtlety" instructions from the following post may be of assistance:

Re: Safari launches but hides window

Unfortunately, this will lose all your Top Sites, History, Bookmarks, passwords, etc. However, in my last post in that topic is a method for getting your BookMarks and Top Sites back that seems to work for most folks.
