iTunes song order in alphabetical rather than correct album order (only for some albums)

Hi I have a problem with SOME of my albums in itunes. Some of them ( aprox 20%) are displaying the sogns within an album in an alphabetical order. I do not have "track" in the column header selected. I have tried selecting "track #"but this does not rectify the track names into the original album order. I can not manually enter the track number either in the "track #" field to manually rectify this as iTunes does not allow you do this.

It is really frustrating that I have to listen to some of my albums in alpabetical song name order rather than the order the artist wanted me to. See an attached example screenshot for Erykah Badu's Baduizm Album. Any help with this appreiated.

Thank you, turingtest2!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!! Your response was educational, clear, and perfect for solving my problem, which I posted a day or two ago and find was similar to DJRoman (Dublin)'s. For me it was a huge, exasperating headache.

I'm too new at this discussions page to figure out how to give you massive points for your help, so please forgive me for failing to do that. I am more than happy to give you as many 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂's as I can!!!

Now I'm beginning to like my MacBook Pro just a little. 😉

Thanks turingtest2but nothing on this site righted my issue. Looks like what I have to do is go into each album that has the track list in alphabetical order, secondary click on each track individually, go to "get info" and manually enter the "track number" x of x to sort the songs in the correct album order. Long winded and frustrating particularly knowing that this wasnt always the way these tracks in my collection we ordered. Unfortunately there's about 20 gig of music I need to do this for so I might be hiring a data entry clerk soon!

I'd missed the clue in the screenshot that showed the tracks were missing their track numbers which is why I just gave you the general link. If you tick the wrong box in the Get Info. editor it is possible to remove all track numbers in error.

If there tracks were originally ripped using iTunes there is a slim possibility that you can select some tracks, then use Advanced > Get Track Names to restore the original values supplied by Gracenote.

Alternative ways of restoring the missing track numbers would be through the use of third party tag tools, e.g. MediaMonkey's AutoTagFromWeb or MusicBrainz Picard Tagger.
