why is my new macbook pro retina kinda choppy when scrolling safari/etc.?

I thought it was my imagination. I also see a slight lag when scrolling.

Have you tried to change the resolution to see how it works? Is it just in Safari or it happens in Chrome and Firefox too?

I have tried to cycle through all the res. No changes for me. Opera seems faster, it might be because opera is not optimized for retina. The fonts are very choppy.

Interestingly, all of the safari and chrome issues go away when running at 2880 1800. Which leads me to believe, there is stuttering naturally present that is being multiplied because of the resoultion scaling. I had 0 problems at that resolution, other than the fact that you have to be 2 inches from the display.

I remember back when I bought this early 2008 macbook pro. Scrolling in safari was choppy. It was eventually fixed with software updates.

I have a new MBP retina, and noticed the scrolling was somewhat "rubbery".

Wait till Mountain Lion comes out in a few days/weeks. Safari will have the Core Animation update.

This problem has not been fixed in Mountain Lion. It seems to be a problem with WebKit, as the problem does not exist in Firefox nor Opera. Niether of these browsers support the Retina display though.

I suspect the iTunes Store uses webkit as well and thus it makes perfect sense that its scrolling is equally hideous.

This should be fixable by software updates, but Apple probably won't ever admit to the existence of this issue.

I have the same probem with rMBP (2.6GHz/512G SSD/16G Memory), OS X 10.8.1 and Safari Version 6.0 (8536.25). There is obvious lag when scrolling webpage.

I don't have the problem in the latest Chrome (21.0) which is retina ready. I think this should be a Safari issue. Please fix it.

Which resolution are you on?

I notice when scaled to say 1920x1200, the whole system becomes slightly more laggy, not just Safari. But I think that's because there's also a screen smoothing process just before the images gets shown onscreen otherwise everything would be chunky and jagged.

I'm on unscaled 2880x1440 retina mode and Safari is super smooth scrolling... not sure whats going on with your computer.

Do you have any junk apps or processes running in the background by any chance?

My MBPR is the baseline model with only 8GB ram, OS X 10.8.1 and Safari 6.0 8536.25.

I have seen this on several machines. It could be related to your problem. The terminal command resolved it each time. YMMV.

I use the default resolution (2880x1800, retina). Before upgrading to ML (and Safari 6), I did not notice the lag.

The lag becomes more obvious if you scroll fast on a somewhat complex page. For example, try this page:

in both Safari and Chrome, can you observe it? I have to switch to Chrome for this reason.

I have the same problem, it becomes very obvious on for example theverge dot com, after the 10.8.3 the lag diminished a little but is stil present
