iMac 500G drive noise, yikes this is loud

Hi folks,

Just received a iMac with 500G drive. The drive just seems outrageously loud. Not whirring and spinning but a dull tapping while its doing it's thing. I know it's normal for the drive to make some noise but this just seems too loud. I'm moving from a Powerbook G4 that make some noise put at quite a lower level (in fact the Dell desktop I use at work is significantly quieter). Should I really be able to distictly be able to her the drive 2.5 - 3 feet away?

Intel iMac 2.0, 2gb RAM, 500G, Mac OS X (10.4.5)
