aif 24/96 files appear as Apple Loops - cannot apply crossfades.

what am I missing?

am running 2.66 Dual Core on 10.5.8 on Logic 9.15.

Can access earlier Logic mixes that included fades and I can access/modifiy those fades. But, when I try to use recently recorded files and apply the Crossfade Tool the "<" icon changes to a fist and it ends up simply moving the region. Inspector indicates "Loop", "Delay" and "Follow Tempo" as the only options.

I reinstalled Logic 9 and did <NOT> install individaul updates sequentially. I jumped to 9.15 for what that might be worth..

repeat: what am I missing?
