Pioneer DVR 110, DVD Player and Jaguar

MDD DP 1.0 Ghz, Pioneer 104 Superdrive, OS 10.2.8

I'm about to install a new Pioneer DVR 110 in my computer. OWC says that Patchburn will give me burn support, but that DVD Player is not supported under 10.2.8. I also have an external DVR (Plextor PX 708UF) which does support DVD Player under Jaguar.

Re: ability to use DVD Player, Apple says "To view movies on a DVD-Video using Apple DVD Player (Mac OS 9) or DVD Player 3.x (Mac OS X) you must have an internal DVD drive. Licensing restrictions of the DVD decoding technology prevent its use with computers that do not come with an internal DVD drive.
Computers that come with an internal CD-ROM or CD-RW drive and are not able to read DVD discs are restricted from viewing movies on DVD-Video discs using Apple DVD player. A "-70012" alert may appear if you try to play a DVD movie disc with an external player."

My question is: do I need to leave the original Pioneer 104 in the computer if I want to use DVD Player on the external Plextor? (I do not mind having to use the external Plextor to view commercial DVD's - that's what I do now anyway).
