strange 'a's in boxes in webpages after loading office

Hi,

Some while ago I loaded MS Office onto my mini. After that I start to get strange "'a's in a box" characters in webpages rendering Safari unuseable. I started using Chrome. And this worked. I have just bought Family tree maker; that uses windows that are images from the web, and the problem is back. The family tree maker people suggest using Firefox, but that doesn't seem to help.

Any ideas?

Hello Iain,

Yes, a bad Font was installed by MS, open Font Book in Applications, Validate all Fonts & check for duplicates.

Thanks, that's what I suspected. Have tried that and tried restoring to the default fonts. But nothing noted or changed. Would MS have messed with anything else, or put fonts somewhere else?

Not sure, but open Console in Utilities & see if the an Office or MS install log say what was installed where.

Also, can you Copy those a boxes & maybe paste into Text Edit or Word & try to dertime the Font Name?

Or check the Source of that Page?

Or if Safari check Preferences>Appearance for what default fonts are used?
