Permanently deleting apps

Currently, when you delete an app from your iPhone, it merely gets removed the the phone, but stays in your list of available apps in iTunes.

So, currently, when you try an app on your phone and decide you dont like it, it remains in your list of downloaded apps in iTunes. The only way to permanently delete it, is to remember to go back to iTunes and manually delete it from there.

I am assuming this is accurate and there is no way in iTunes to see which apps were recently removed from the phone (thereby jogging your memory as to what apps you might want to permanently get rid of.

I wish, when deleting an App from the iPhone/iPad, you were given the choice of "remove from iPhone/iPad" and "permanently delete." I've got way too many unwanted apps cluttering up iTunes...

That's correct. Even if you delete from iTunes, you still can re-download them under purchased in Apple server.

I agree. This is a large problem.

unfortunately ckuan, that isn't a solution.

if you have tested a few apps that do the same thing to find the best one to suit your needs, how are you supposed to know which one to use when you look at your account and see them all, instead of the app you actually want?

Update: The latest iTunes 10.6.3, you can go to Purchased, and delete the app from the Apple server.

I see all the purchased apps, but the only option seems to be 'hide'. where do I find the delete option?

Do you have iTunes 10.6.3?

If you do, select iTunes Store under STORE (left panel), select Purchased (far right).

Select Apps, hover you mouse over the app you want gone, click the X like on iPhone.

Thanks for your reply,

clicking the x just brings up a prompt that it will be 'hidden' instead of removed. This means there is still a copy on the server, does it not?

If you select Not on This Computer (top right) first before you choose an app to delete, it will be deleted in iCloud.

Is iTunes Store under STORE selected?

Did you do it on the list under Not on This Computer?

Since you said it hides which I had in Snow Leopard and Lion, can you unhide it?

This is incorrect. It will be hidden, not removed from your account.

To see it again, view your iTunes account then View Hidden Purchases.

You're right. Thanks for the hint.

I thought the new Mountain Lion has added this function,😊 because I don't have to sign in again with my Apple ID to see my purchases and the hide/unhide button was missing. My bad.

In SL and Lion days, I have to sign in even though my Apple ID was visible (top right) to see the purchase and the hide/unhide button was available. Now that they've relax the Apple ID sign in and so my mistake.
