iPhone wifi won't connect to Comcast

I have Comcast Xfinity internet using an Arris TG862 wireless gateway.

The default security settings for the modem is WPA/WPA2-PSK(TKIP/AES) with automatic channel selection.

Whenever I try to connect to the wireless with these settings my phone responds with "Unable to join network"

I saw on another iphone forum that to connect with the Iphone the router should bet to security mode WPA2-AES with channel 1,6, or 11. Whenever I do any of these setting the phone says it connects and shows the wifi logo instead of 3g. However, whenever I try to open a web page I get the server not responding error. I checked the router setup page and it shows that no other device is connected besides by hardwired desktop computer.

I have checked the wifi on my laptop (which I am currently on) to check if it's a general wifi issue or just my phone.

Any suggestions would be greatlly appreciated.... I'm at wits end trying ot get this internet up and running.

I don't think is a problem with the iphone wifi. I think this is problem with comcast triple play modem. I have the exact same router and intermittent wifi problems with apple devices like the ipad and iphone. Occasionally, it will have problems with connecting with other devices as well (but those devices most of all). When I reset it, everything works fine for a little while. I end up resetting about once a day or so.

This router apparently has these kind of problems because I never had any problems with my airport extreme operating off just a run of the mill cable modem with voice. I wanted to turn the wifi off, so I could just run my router off it as a bridge, but apparently you have to call comcast specifically for this.

MMy iPhone 4 and iPad 2 wifi connections worked fine until the summer when Comcast suggested we should change passwords. After that I had wifi and could receive but not send my Comcast email. Now that I've upgraded to an iPhone 6 I receive my Comcast email, can't send and each time I try to join my comcast wifi network I get a response that my password is incorrect. It's correct everywhere else -- on my PC, on my iPad, but not the phone. And why I can send email from either is a mystery. This is all happening on the same xfinity equipment that worked fine before.
