Q: AW5

I have AW5 on one of my Macs which i really like to use vs AW6. I have an archive of some AW6 word processing documents that I can't open with AW5. Does anyone know of a trick/tip that I can use in AW5 to open these without having to install AW6 again?

G3/350, Mac OS 9.2.x

Once you've saved a document in a newer version you can't open it in the older version without doing a conversion. For that you need AppleWorks 6 to be sure you can convert all files types to AW5 format.

Thanks. I have two additional questions about AW5:

    1) when I try to open a Word.doc I get this message "Translator could not read this file". Is there a way to open/view Word docs using AW5?

    2) I would like to save all of my WP docs as text files. Is there a way to set this in prefs as the default?

#1 - Even AppleWorks 6 can't open newer Word documents. Microsoft has made many changes to the formats over the years. Check out icWord from Panergy Software. It can open & convert Word files to AppleWorks 5.

    #2 - no
