I have a SONY HD camera AVCHD. I am using a Mac Tower 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xenon, running OSx 10.6.8 and iMovie 6.0.3. I have tried importing movie using the supplied sony USB cable but nothing shows up. Any suggestions?

I have tried importing movie from the camera using the Sony-supplied USB cable but nothing shows up. Any suggestions? Would a firewire cable help? DO I need special converter software? This is a real pain as I have had many cameras before (all mini-DV) and have never had a problem importing to iMovie or Final Cut.

Cheapest way I can think of:

buy imovie 11

use that to import the AVCHD

navigate to events folder of imovie 11, where the imported movie sits as apple AIC codec

drag that aic file into imovie 06, where it will edit fine.

But of course, if you get imovie 11, you can just edit in that, though lots of us regard imovie 06 as still a wonder after all these years.
