burn movies to edit later

I have been lazy/pregnant/new mom and not kept up on burning movies and deleting them. Now I have waayy too many and I want to burn them to a disc so I can delete them off my computer, free up some space then edit them in imovie later to burn on dvd. Is there a way to do this? Is there a better way to accomplish this? It is daunting..😕
