IPad 2 16gb or 64gb!? So confused...

Ok right where to start......

I purchased an Ipad 2 64gb White off of a 100% positive seller on ebay. He advertised this IPad as a 64gb one in white minor scratches and new screen. Long story short i recieved the IPad today through the post and inspected it. It indeed does have a few scratches on the rear, the screen works perfectly and on the back it says its a 64GB version. Loading up the device i find that there is only 13.8GB space avaliable......hmmmm alarm bells start to ring. I plug the Ipad into my PC........Itunes says 13.8 avaliable....hmmmmmm starting to sweat now! I open the settings in the 'About ' menu and notice that the model number is MC979LL. This Ipad was advertised as Model number MC981B/A.

Now i like to think of myself a technical minded chap but to me it seems that i have a 16GB IPad 2 with a rear case part saying its a 64gb. Could you tell me are there certain glitches with IPad and the new IOS or have i been scammed?

I hope this was posted in the correct place and if not i do apologise.

It sounds like you might have been scammed. Here are the model numbers for the iPad2.

Apple iPad 2 (Wi-Fi Only) 16, 32, 64 GB

The wi-fi only iPad 2 configurations are assigned model number A1395.

MC769LL/A is the original order number for the 16 GB configuration in black. The 32 GB configuration in black is assigned MC770LL/A and the 64 GB configuration in black is assigned MC916LL/A. The original 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB configurations in white are assigned MC979LL/A, MC980LL/A, and MC981LL/A, respectively. On March 7, 2012, Apple discontinued the 32 GB and 64 GB configurations and assigned new order numbers of MC954LL/A and MC989LL/A for the black and white 16 GB configurations, respectively.

Looking back on the whole thing, my guess is that the scratches on the back of the iPad came as a result of having a new back installed with the serial number for the 64GB model.

I HIGHLY recommend the gazelle store on eBay, I did get a iPad 64gb wi-fi - 3g att from them and it has worked perfectly and was exactly what they said it would be.
