Why is there ample information about backing up a MAC to the time capsule but not a PC? I was assured that this would be an easy backup on a PC but I can't even get my computer to find the capsule with it being wired directly to it (much less wireless). Argh! Any suggestions???

Load bonjour onto the PC. Usually just load the airport utility which should contain bonjour as well.
The TC by nature uses names illegal to SMB/Windows.
Make sure the TC and wireless names (if you were to use the later) are short, no spaces pure alphanumeric.
On the file sharing page of the TC turn on the guest account to read and write and ensure you have the correct workgroup name.. generally WORKGROUP.
Sorry but you cannot expect Apple to really care all that much about windows.
You might want to take a look at Genie Timeline Pro if you want a PC application with similar backup features to Mac's Time Machine.
