2010 Mac Mini suitability to run GarageBand (NOT a GB question! Please leave it here!)

Can we try this again? I posted this question two days ago in this section but somehow it got unceremoniously and without warning shifted it to the GarageBand section, where, predictably, just about nobody has answered it because it's not technically a GB question, it's a question about Mac Mini suitability to use the software.

My kids have started to experiment with Magic GarageBand on their 2010 Mac Mini.

Trouble is when they try to play their projects in Garageband they get an error message:

"Part of the project was not played

This project has too many real instrument tracks to be played in real-time.

To optimize performance, see the 'Optimizing GarageBand performance' page in GarageBand Help."

Is just five tracks really expecting too much from a 2010 Mac Mini? Would adding extra memory help?

Thanks.

Not sure that I'll be much help to you with the newer version of GarageBand, because I'm running an older version on both my 2006 iMac with 2GB of RAM and 2010 Mac Mini with 8GB of RAM.

If the Mac Mini still has the factory 2GB of RAM, then you will notice a big difference in multi tasking performance if you upgrade it to either 4 or 8GB of RAM.

see > Memory, Drives, Free Installation Guides for Apple Mac mini

and > Crucial Memory Upgrades for Macs - Apple Memory

Again while I am not running the latest version of GarageBand, I can say that my lesser 1.83GHz Early Core Duo with 2GB of RAM has no problem creating and playing a 5 or more track didy.

As for the newer version of GarageBand, perhaps you should start a new question over in the GarageBand section of the forum that is more focused on "Optimizing GarageBand performance"
