Q: put 1 ram (2gb) reinstall and booted ok, shutdown then unplug then the other 2gb memory and booted and ok now???

3 beeps on start up, then put 1 ram (2gb) reinstall and booted ok, shutdown then unplug then the other 2gb memory and booted and ok now???

perm fix, or just temp?

A:

If it is working after firmly reseating both modules, then most likely you just had a loose module.

If it reoccurs, run the > Apple Hardware Test

When it comes to RAM, iMac's are very picky.

Exactly which iMac do you have?

24-inch mid 2007 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, iMac. 2 days ago spouse told me it was beeping. I was out of town, then when I returned, I took out the 1 2 gb ram that had been in there for 4 + years, 2-2gb 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, it worked. then reinstalled the other and it works now. just wondering if there was an update that could have affected the POST? as I said its been in the machine for quite awhile and just lately having this issue.
