Converting to AIFF Files

We have always converted mp3 files after getting a song from iTunes to AIFF files in order to use them in Final Cut. Under the "Advanced" tab in iTunes there is a drop down for "Creat AIFF File". Now, that seems to be gone and there is only a selection for "Create an AAC file". What happened to AIFF conversion? If I convert to AAC, when I go to import the song to Final Cut, it is greyed out and won;t let me selevt AAC songs. What happened? Is this a change in the new OS "Upgrade?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4), Final Cut Pro 7.0.3

In iTunes, control-click on the track you want to convert to AIFF and from the drop down menu choose "Show in FInder".

Open the file from the finder in QuickTime 7 Pro.

In QuickTime 7 Pro, go to the menu File > Export, and when the Export Pane opens, choose "Sound to AIFF" as the export option. Click on the Options button and make sure Linear PCM, Stereo, 48kHz is selected.

Click OK, then navigate to where you want the converted file saved and click Save.

You then import the file into FCP and you should be good to go.

It's very simple. Open compressor. go to the settings window and apple: formats: audio: aiff48:16. Control click on it (or right click if you've got a 2 button mouse) and choose "save as droplet." this will create a droplet which is a mini-application. You can drag multiple files on top of it, or "open with." I keep a folder of droplets on my desktop. If I have a droplet I use a great deal, I put it in the sidebar so it's always easy to drag a file or files to.

By default, compressor will save the converted files in the same folder as the source with the original file name with the preset's name added. You can change this behavior if you want by duplicating nd customizing the setting in compressor before making the droplet.
