iPhone 4s speaker not working

My iPhone 4s won't play music through the phone speaker, it will ring but it wont make any other tones, unless i have an external speaker pugged in. The volume bar won't even come up unless an external speaker is plugged in either. What can i do?

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1.1

another way plug with your charger and a little press and hold from up to down on charger dock and try it.
