Q: How can I reset the Mac App Store?

Hello!

For some time now, I did not get any update in Mac App Store meaning that there was nothing when klicking on "Updates". Yesterday, I finally looked under "Purchases" (or how is it calles in the English version?) and saw that there were a couple of updates. So, I updated all of them. When returning to the purchases, they were still marked as Applications to update. After repairing the rights in Disk Utility, I got a new update this morning using the "Update" Button again. But all other programs do still have the update button as described even as they are updated already. The version of those I checked was the new one.

What I did already:

- I deleted 2 Apps in finder and installed them again - afterwards, again the Update-Button

- I deleted cache and resetted everything in iTunes

- I activated the debug menu and deleted the cache and resetted

- I deleted files in ~/Library as described in https://discussions.apple.com/thread...art=0&tstart=0

It seems as if the MAS saves somewhere again which programs are installed in what versions. Probably it couldn't modify that file and is still showing the wrong details. Where can I reset that file? It's just not good if you don't know which App is updated and which one isn't.

    Thanks, Chimpo,

But no blame was attached.    It was simply because I saw the reference to downloading Mackeeper that I thought it better to ask.    Carolyn has always solved any problems I had and I've learnt to rely on her.   Incidentally, I've found "trash it" a good program too.

To anyone: DO NOT UNINSTALL THE MAC APP STORE! I got ist uninstalles with Trash It. But you do not know which files it is delting. The Combo DID NOT reinstall the App Store. So, I reinstalled Lion and imported all the data. The problem remains

    Thanks for the update, Chimpo.

Part of the problem may be that App Store is simply not meant to be uninstalled.   Because it is an Apple process I would have thought that the fact that there were no uninstall instructions would have underlined that.

Can only imagine that in the process of uninstalling, some residue of that program or the uninstall process is preventing you from reinstalling; that of course, would require more strenerous efforts to correct.    As a separate thought, what was the exact version of the combo update you used?

Hope you sort it and keep us informed.

I solved this not by uninstalling the Mac App Store, but rather the offending app that said it had an update that I knew had already been installed.

Apparently, using a different user, I applied the update, but the App Store didn't/couldn't keep track of that, and yet no update could be applied, so the status couldn't be cleared. Uninstalling and re-installing under the user whose credentials as associated with the MAS worked for me. Hope that helps someone else.

    Try the Spotlight fix.

Double check that you don't have a copy of the apps on another partiiton/volume/hard drive.

This drove me nuts for weeks and I wasted hours on it!

Sorry, I did not react any more. I used the last combo available at that point.

The Spotlight fix usually cannot be the problem. If so, no updates could be shown at all. But it might be a solution, to build the search index again...

    Hi chimpo,

This thread is now so old as to be almost meaningless.   If you still have problems do start another thread.   I haven't heard anything from or about Carolyn for ages.

    Regards,  71
