    Reset the SMC:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

    Try a different charger

    Battery maybe dead.

    Reset SMC.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

    Choose the method for:

"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".

Keep the computer plugged into the main.

Press the option key down and click on battery icon in the menubar to view the condition of the battery.

Hope this will help, if not contact Apple.

i called apple and they didnt help me. told me to pay 49$ for one call to technical suport. so i called best buy talked to them for free and they helped me. and figurd out it was simply a bad charger. dont get it tho only had this laptop for 5 months and already a bad charger. and it was 80$. love apple just not their prices

Not sure why you would pay for a new charger when the old one is covered under warranty.

I just had the same issue, with a Macbook Pro that is only a few months old. I was told to do the SMC reset. Initially, before calling them, I bought a new charger. That didn't fix the issue.

I would return the new charger if I were you and try the SMC reset. If that doesn't work, I would have apple send you a new charger. The charger is covered for a year.

Im having the same issue although my mbp is completely dead,  To the original poster your mac should be under warrantty. Mine is not. Wish i knew someone near by with a charger...  Is it possible to reset the smc if the mac wont turn on?

I've also got a 2012 MacBook Pro build and I'm into my second charger and once again the same issue has happened. The machine appears to be getting an external charge as the screen in lit as it would if mains power was fixed but the charge indictor says "not charging". Apple clearly has got an issue hear with the battery. I'm going to get a refund and buy something else. Not good enough!

I urge you to contact Apple regarding the warranty on the power adapter.  When i purchased a new one to replace an ancient one, the new one had a 1 year warranty.  So should the one that came with your MBP.
