When I check my storage usage, there is a section called backups that is taking alot of memory. What is it?

are you able to remove these and how if you can.
There is no reason to do so, as the OS will manage these automatically & delete if necessary. Could come in handy if you accidentally delete something. But, if you turn off Time Machine, they will delete on their own.
