SimCity 4 Mac Rush Hour Expansion: Deciding if System Meets Requirements

Okay if anyone can help me figure this out that would be great.

I have an Apple PowerBook G4 running Mac OS X Panther (10.3.9) and am looking into buying the SimCity 4 Rush Hour Expansion Pack for Mac to work with my existing Mac.

Its Processor is a 1 GHZ PowerPC G4.

Has 256 MB of memory built-in.

The system requirements I read say you need at least Mac OS 10.2.8 with a PowerPC G4 or G5 + 32 MB of video RAM, 2.0 GB of free disk space, an 8X CD-ROM, and the proccessor has to be 700MHZ or faster.

I have Mac OS X Panther, a PowerPC G4, 32 MB of Video RAM, more than 2.0 GB of free disk space, but only two concerns I have are is my processor good enough. Says it needs 700MHZ and I have 1 GHZ. What's bigger a MHZ or a GHZ?

Also how do I tell if my CD-ROM drive is 8X.

Here's the info regarding my CD-ROM drive:

MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-816:

Capacity: 6.91 GB
Manufacturer: MATSHITA
Model: MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-816
Revision: DXJ3
Serial Number:
Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-RW
Disc Burning: Apple Supported/Shipped
Removable Media: Yes
Detachable Drive: No
BSD Name: disk2
Protocol: ATAPI
Unit Number: 0
Socket Type: Internal
OS9 Drivers: No

That's all the info I could find. Not sure if my PowerBook has a SuperDrive. I cannot burn DVDs with it although I can play them. I can burn CDs only but no DVDs. If my Mac does not meet the system requirements will have to settle for buying SimCity 4 without Rush Hour Expansion Pack.

Or see if I can update the hardware to make it work. Please let me know if you think my existing configuration can work with SimCity 4 Mac Rush Hour Expansion Pack.

Hopefully it does. Am mainly concerned with the 700MHZ requirement and 8X CD requirement otherwise everything else seems to be in place.

From the looks of it, I would say you should be able to play the expansion. A GHz is more than a MHz, so for the processor speed you'll be fine. Your CD drive should be fast enough. 8x speeds for CD read speeds are a thing of the past, I don't recall the exact read speeds for the drives in you model of PB, but it is faster than 8x. You should be good to go on playing the game. Also, from what you listed, you have a Superdrive. Meaning that you can burn both CD's and DVD's.
Hope you find this useful.

Thanks, I just ran Aspyr Game Agent (just in case) to be on the safe side -- (Aspyr is the distributor of such games for Mac platform - although they are made by Maxis for PC and have EA logo (Electronic Arts) for Mac the company that ports it to OS X is Aspyr) and as such used a special downloadable program of there's to test it and fortunately it said it will work.

Thanks!
