What are my options (Java)?

Hi all,

I have a macbook (2009) running on OS v 10.5.8. I've read that there are no more Java updates made for this version. I need it for school. Some of the lessons I need aren't opening properly. What are my options at this point? Can I even get Java on my macbook anymore?

Thanks
Nichole

There is no further update to Java for Leopard than this one:

Update 10, 29 June 2011 - This release updates J2SE 5.0 to 1.5.0_30, and updates Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_26. J2SE 1.4.2 is no longer being updated to fix bugs or security issues and remains disabled by default in this update. Support for out-of-process Java applets on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard has been removed with this update.

This release is only for Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later versions of Mac OS X 10.5. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1359

Please ignore my last post. I should have said:

If you need a more recent version of Java your simplest route is to upgrade to Snow Leopard but if you wish to try a more adventurous free route you could try OpenJDK from: http://landonf.bikemonkey.org/static/soylatte/

I have not tried it and would particularly like to hear how you get on with it.

Good luck
