Can't get to "advanced" add printer options

as described here:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301397

I'm trying to get a windows printer going, with no luck. There is documentation on Apple support on how to manually add the printer but I cna't seem to get the "advanced" option to appear by holding down option while clicking on more printers.

suggestions? Is there a way to trigger this add printer function other than through this path???

thanks

I suspected that there was something wrong, but having to reinstall MacOS is going to be a real drag, there are a bunch of other things installed here that will cause me grief. (for example, where does Entourage keep its mail so that I don't lose my mail)

What I'm tring to do is make my windows printer work again. For some reason, it worked a while back and it stopped working about three weeks ago. There are instructions on how to manually add printers on the Apple web site and I was trying to use those, which required the Advanced tab.

What happens when I try to add my printer from my Windows box is that I get the name of the machine that it is connected to and click "choose" and come back (after a good wait) that the username/password is nto valid, even though I am using the same password from another windows machine and everything works fine.

Yup, it really is there in 10.4.5.
Maybe you got a bad DVD...
Or your keyboard is slightly different - Option is
called Alt on some keyboards.

You get the gold star! (Well sort of)

Nah, it couldn't be the keyboard, could it.

Went down to the basement, grabbed the keyboard from his iMac DV (G3) and figured what the ****, it's worth a try. The option key worked the first time and gave me the advanced menu, added the printer the way that I wanted to manually and shazam! I'm printing.

the keyboard that I was using was the Apple pro keyboard, and the alt key works just fine when I'm using other apps. Just on this one thing... very weird.

thank you everyone for your suggestions and help!
