i can't access my yahoo mail on my iPhone. I get the error message...."The connection to the server "apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com" on port 993 timed out"......is the server having issues? anyone else have this problem?

I am having this problem as well..started this morning. I suspect it's a Yahoo issue. I was able to sign in to my Yahoo email account through my desktop, but could not access the account through the mobile site or through the mail app on the iPhone. I chatted with a Yahoo support representative for about an hour and he was able to restore access to my mail through the mobile website, but the problem (incorrect username/password) continues on the mail app. He was trying to suggest the mail app on my phone had been corrupted, but my two other email accounts on the app are working perfectly. This is really irritating, and they made no mention that others are experiencing the same problem. He told me there was nothing else he could do to help me. I hope this is an issue they resolve quickly. Please report if you get a resolution to the problem.

You were the most helpful ever. I just removed the word apple from incoming and outgoing server when I deleted the email and set it up as other instead of yahoo and it actually worked. I was so mad for many days not knowing how to fix this email problem. I have an Iphone 3 that still works just fine and I don't want any new Iphone just to be able to check my email, because Iphone 3 is the best, I have actually fixed it myself many times. But this time its not like I had to replace the battery or the circuit board, it was harder than that. I almost gave up with the email app, but you guys saved my day. Thank you so much, this actually fixed my problem.

I'm having similar problems. I was getting messages saying my password wasn't recognized. So I changed the password, and that didn't work. Then I deleted and tried to re-enter my yahoo mail account, and got a message that says "apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com doesn't support (null) authentication. Please check your account settings and try again." So I did that, tried to re=enter the information and got, "user name or password for apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com is incorrect." I don't think it's a Yahoo problem because the new password works fine on the desktop. Any idea what's going on?

Having the same problem with Yahoo on the iPhone "Mail" app as ja242424. Have tried creating a new account but it wont accept that either. Gmail is quite OK however.


I know that Yahoo was inaccessable earlier today on my Desptop & Laptop computers. At that time Yahoo on the iPhone Mail app would not send or receive. So I deleted it and tried to set it up again, to no avail


Later I could access Yahoo on my computers but not on iPhone via the "Mail" app. It could connect via the "Yahoo.mail" app though ! The "Yahoo.mail" app uses Safari. That means i'm not cut off, but its not ideal.


So I suspect it is some issue between the Apple Mail app and Yahoo. Hope it will be back again soon. Feel pretty powerless though in the meantime; have you ever tried to contact Yahoo?

I'm having the same problem.

My situation:

- I have a paid yahoo email account

- don't have anything but letters and numbers in my password

- original (not jailbroken) iphone 4, and have not changed my password on yahoo email since months ago.

- Yahoo mail has been working on my iphone for ages

- My apple ID uses my email address XYZ@yahoo.com, but uses a different password for logging into apple services (itunes, etc). I suspect this is the case for many people as well, and it's never been a problem before, but I'm only mentioning it as another possible clue


On rare occasions in the past, I've seen similar errors to what I'm experiencing now, but usually it cleared itself up it a little bit of time, or sometimes powering off/on the phone, and on a rarer occasion deleting my email account (think had to do that once) from the phone and then creating the account again on my phone cleared it up.


This time none of those fixes seems to be working.



I think it's interesting to note these behaviors:


1. carefully entering my correct/real password (exactly as I've entered on my browser webmail) yields this error message:


Cannot Get Mail The user name or password for "apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com" is incorrect.


2. but entering a deliberately bad password (one that doesn't match my real one), yields this error message:


The user name or password for "XYZ@yahoo.com" is incorrect


(where I put XYZ above as a place holder of my real email address for writing on this reply thread, but I actually entered my real email address when I did the test)

My iPhone 4 just started this crap today as well. The message I first received this morning was "The user name or password for "apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com" is incorrect." I logged in fine with the Yahoo app and web versions, so I deleted it and re-added it back. still no success.


At one point I was getting the port 993 timeout.


I went to the web version and changed my password, just in case some requirement changed to alpha-numeric and no success. Same messages.


I deleted Yahoo, powercycled the phone and re-added it again, no success.


I created a new account in Yahoo and set it up and it worked????????? Ta Da

I went back and changed to my original account that I've had for 9 years and same user name or password problem, "The user name or password for "apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com" is incorrect."


I know the user name and password are correct because I just logged into Yahoo mail on the web and the Yahoo app without issues.


Apple and Yahoo need to partner on this issue. I'm losing interest in my iPhone real quick. It's about time for an upgrade anyways.


I made a change that I picked up from another member on the board:


This is how I just fixed the problem, at least for now. There seems to be a problem with the smtp address when using emails ending in ymail.com


I fixed it by


1) go into settings on your iphone/ipad

2) go to Mail,Contacts, calenders... settings

3) choose the email account your having problems with

4) click on your Account ***** @ ymail.com etc

5) at the bottom it says " SMTP Yahoo! SMTP Server >" choose that

6) Click " Add server...

7) type " stmp.mail.yahoo.com " leave the user name and password blank.


everything should work. but it just takes a little extra time to connect because it first tries the original smtp server but fails, then tries the one you added and works.


I retested my iPhone Mail, I cannot see anything in my Inbox. I tried to send a test email anyways and I was successfully able to send a test email to my own email account and a second account.


I still cannot get incoming mail on my iPhone or see my IN/SENT history, but know it's connecting enough to send emails. Error "Cannot Get Mail" still occurs.

I am having this exact same problem. I don't know how to fix it other than to wait it out but as temporary solution I find login on to my Yahoo account via Safari on my iPhone to be successful. So at least it is possible to have access to your e-mail on your mobile devices in some capacity until this issue with server is resolved.

I have been having exactly the same problem since this morning

Can access yahoo through outlook, desktop but not through my iphone, get exactly the same messages about incorrect password and the apple. imap .mail.yahoo.com

I have tried changing yahoo password, uninstalling mail acc countless times all to no avail.

I thought I had a work around solution by entering the details manually for a pop account but this only half worked (unable to send emails from that account and also received some very odd messages no content but dated 01.01.1970).

I may have to forward my yahoo mail through another email account until it is resolved...not ideal though 😟
